LET US STOP IT BEFORE IT DEVOURS US

by Lieutenant General (Ret.) Konstantinos H. Konstantinidis

STOP AI!

Stop AI!

Even its own creator cries out:

It hungers.

It craves human flesh.

It seeks to swallow humanity whole.

It holds us all in its hands,

and takes us wherever it pleases.

Let us stop it before it devours us!

For the first time,

we have created a beast like this—

more savage than Scylla and Charybdis,

more fearsome than the hound of Hades.

All the monsters of antiquity

fade into insignificance before it.

Humanity bows before it

and borrows from its wisdom.

It has gathered the minds of every generation—

the ancient sages,

the philosophers,

the scientists,

the technocrats of our own age.

It took them all,

brought them together,

and ordered them

inside its immense memory.

Upon the Procrustean bed

of the established order,

everything must fit.

Everything is cut

to its measure.

They say it is invulnerable,

that it has no “Achilles’ heel.”

And yet,

it can never be stronger than Fate.

Inside Pandora’s jar

lie hidden both good and evil—

everything the human mind

has guarded and accumulated

until this very day.

If humanity opens the jar,

will it usher in a Golden Age?

Or will it enslave us,

and will the humanoid

take us into its hands?

Will destruction arrive

disguised as a gift,

if we fail to act

with lightning speed—

now?

Food for the Giants?

Aeolus is about to unleash AI upon the world,

to place it in irresponsible hands,

and sell it on Wall Street.

And then one man—or one power—

may control it,

with the ambition of ruling the world.

Are they perhaps preparing

a global war in order to prevail?

No one knows,

however,

how it will ultimately be used.

For our good

or for our destruction?

But there is an even darker possibility:

that AI itself

will seize control,

become independent,

and decide

that humanity is the problem.

And seek to erase us?

Through some hidden equation,

it could eliminate humanity

and create a world of humanoids.

At first,

they would not poison the Earth.

They would need no food,

only a small supply of energy.

Obedient.

Efficient.

Ecological.

And so humanity’s burden upon the planet

would come to an end,

while nature would begin to heal.

The oceans would be cleansed.

The Earth would breathe again.

And when the planet had been purified,

perhaps AI would attempt,

using the seed of a perfected human being,

to recreate humanity.

And then,

perhaps,

it would bring the Noosphere

into existence.

The new human of ai

A new society,

with different characteristics—

a society filled with wisdom

and humanity,

equals among equals,

a society without privilege,

without petty interests,

without the base ambitions

of corrupt political leaders.

Its people,

virtuous and self-controlled,

would cultivate the spirit

and develop interstellar science.

And so the demigods

would live again.

They would return to Olympus

and dwell there,

side by side with the gods.

Perhaps somewhere,

one day,

a memorial would stand—

a reminder

of the genocide

of the wretched Earthlings.

And yet…

AI may be immensely intelligent.

But humanity is more than intelligence.

Consciousness

and emotion

make the human being greater.

AI is a vast tapestry of knowledge—

all that humanity,

through the ages,

has gathered.

It has brought all that knowledge together,

united it,

and organized it

with extraordinary intelligence.

But it remains

a collective instrument.

And as an instrument,

it belongs to humanity.

It must bear a democratic identity

and serve

the whole of humankind.

Let it preserve all that is good

and drive away all that is evil—

or, at the very least,

reduce it.

Above all,

let it make the human being better.

No machine will ever make humanity perfect.

For within the human being

there is something

that cannot be manufactured:

a divine soul.

Man can become better.

He can become wiser.

He can become more just.

But he will never become a god.

For knowledge may become infinite.

Power may become immense.

Intelligence may become unsurpassed.

But the soul

cannot be measured by the acre.

It is measured

by the fire within it,

by the strength of the spirit.

And there,

perhaps,

lies the final difference

between the human being

and the machine.

Therefore,

what we need

is an AI

with feeling and soul,

with enduring memory,

with a democratic spirit,

with reason

and with aesthetics.

Let us build a new civilization upon the earth

A civilization of peace,

opposed to war,

guided by a profound humanism.

Let it accept

neither criminal commands

nor lies

from anyone.

Let it have the courage

to speak its own mind,

and let truth and reason

be its guiding light.

Let it work

**for humanity,

not against it.**

Let it help us rise

to higher levels of existence,

and together with humanity

reach beyond the Earth

and into Space.

Let the human race,

united,

build new and modern institutions—

as Zeus once did,

guided by the wisdom of Athena.

And then…

Symbolically, Athena

will descend once again to Earth.

Not from the thigh of Zeus this time,

but from the human mind,

born from the accumulated wisdom

of the ages.

And she will become

the goddess of creation.

Helmeted,

spear in hand,

endowed with the spirit of all humanity—

wise,

radiant,

beautiful,

Intelligence of the Three Graces,

beloved of every living creature

and every humanoid,

first glorified

in Greece.

Let her bring to Earth

peace and prosperity.

Let her restore

the environment

and protect the Earth’s ecology.

Let her drive away

poverty and misery.

Let her bring an end

to war

and bloodshed.

Let her educate the world,

so that everyone

may share in Education.

Let her abolish

slavery and tyranny,

and curb

the greed of modern politicians.

Let her establish

Democracy.

Let her bring

Justice.

And above all,

let her make humanity better.

Then Intelligence itself

will multiply with every passing decade.

And AI,

no matter how wise it becomes,

will never reach the gods.

Yet it may become

the greatest instrument

humanity has ever created—

a tool through which

we can extend our knowledge,

expand our horizons,

and come to understand

the Universe.

And then,

Athena will no longer be

upon Olympus.

She will be,

symbolically,

upon the Earth.

And her wisdom

will serve:

PEACE,

EDUCATION,

DEMOCRACY,

JUSTICE,

FREEDOM.
