Konstantinos Konstantinidis – Amphiktyon
Is the world moving forward
and the arrow does not go back?
Is the fact that it has not yet rebelled
despite the ominous indications,
the most auspicious proof?
Despite the destruction of the environment,
the excessive heat wave,
the economic hardship,
social automation,
wars and suspicion,
hunger and unemployment,
the unequal distribution of wealth
and our wounded democracy,
the world continues to hope
Is it possible that man can ultimately endure more
than we think?
Is there no turning back on this path,
even if it leads some to ruin?
Is there no other path,
because in our time technology prevails?
Is it our fault, the old ones,
who are fogging the glass?
We lived in another century.
We did not have time to understand
even the recent modernization of the Parthenon.
Incompatible with this life,
we still miss
the slop and the tsarouchi.
And yet, the problems exist.
No era has lived without them.
We do not live in societies of angels,
nor in worlds of galactic stars
The human race has gone through
much more difficult trials
And more critical times
and emerged victorious.
Perhaps it will succeed now too.
But perhaps this time
it is preparing to change form.
Or does life continue on its path,
leaving behind those who cannot follow?
Time moves on,
passes us
and ages us.
Only those who have learned to struggle endure to the end.
But history teaches us
that the opposite also happens.
Over time,
unexpected changes
overturn certainties.
“Necessity even convinces the gods.”
And when human arrogance
exceeds limits,
when it provokes Hybris,
Ati inevitably comes.
Then societies rise,
balances are restored
and every unholy work
meets its end.
But perhaps this time
he is preparing to change form.
With the humanoid he will replace him,
resilient like the sparrow,
in any environment he will survive.
In the Arctic he will not freeze,
on Earth he will create miracles like a deliverer
and in Space he will carry out experiments.
He will not complain about overheating,
nor about food.
He will not ask for water or oxygen.
He will not establish unions,
nor will he claim rights.
He will be obedient
like a disciplined soldier,
to the orders of his creator.
And if Hubris becomes the law of men,
Nemesis is never late.
History changes faces,
but not its eternal laws. (28/6/26)
