Venezuela is one of the countries with the greatest energy wealth in oil and natural gas in the world and geostrategically was close to Russia and China.
After this, the operation in Venezuela and the arrest of Maduro was expected since the summer. He is already in the hands of the Drug Enforcement Agency to be tried as a drug trafficker and the American Justice
While he refused to leave voluntarily, it was inevitable that he would leave by force. Needless to say, international law is applied by the powerful where it benefits them and violated when it does not.
With the operation in Venezuela, the US secured multiple goals:
1/ The most important was the seizure of the world’s energy reserves, which they deprived of the Chinese market. [Venezuela has approximately 303 billion barrels of proven oil reserves, which are considered the largest in the world and represent approximately 17% of global reserves.]
2/ They also militarily imposed the well-known American doctrine according to which the entire American continent is the “vital territory” of the US
3/ They took another step in implementing the “strategy of containment”, that is, the strategy of isolating China after the attack on Iran. This strategy, after all, achieved the fall of the Soviet Union Union without hot but only with cold war
4/ Mr. Trump showed friends and enemies his decisiveness and that when he decides, he does it without hesitation
Russia reacted diplomatically but calmly. So did China because after the Cuban crisis, no one wants to get involved in a major crisis with the US in its backyard, like the Cuban missile crisis in 1962
This was a warning message to Cuba and Colombia that their turn is coming. As he announced, the next strike will be on Iran.
Cuba will of course not be at all happy with the fall of Maduro because he supplied it with cheap energy, something that is considered over. Of course, it was also a message to Zelensky and to European leaders that the American President means what he says and does it in practice. Of course, he missed the “peace” of Ukraine and no one does not know how his action in Venezuela will affect his mediation to stop the war in Ukraine. The US intervention in Venezuela will have its repercussions worldwide if we judge by the urgent convening of the UN Security Council which is scheduled for MONDAY, January 5, 2026, on the subject of recent developments in Venezuela and the situation that has arisen after military action and international reactions.
And now for us. We hope that Mr. Erdogan will not consider himself similar to Mr. Trump’s friend(?) and proceed to violate international law with illegal actions against us, because Greece is determined and will defend its homeland and its sovereign rights (4/1/2026)
