Konstantinos Konstantinidis – Amphiktyon
A well-organized state alone is not enough;
honest and wise people are also needed,
so that the economy may prosper
and citizens may not suffer from hunger.
Technocrats alone are not sufficient,
nor bureaucrats and profiteers,
nor those who exploit public life
through selfishness and petty politics.
Prime Minister of our era,
draw near to people of knowledge and virtue,
so that they may reform the state mechanism
which too often serves the few
and wrongs the many.
The country suffers from favoritism,
partisan interests, and chronic dysfunction.
Laws bend in favor of “our own people,”
while education remains wounded
and schools neglected.
Legislators often prove to be servants
of party factions,
indifferent to the needs of the citizens,
to galloping inflation,
and to the rising cost of living
that crushes households.
The nation is torn apart
by crime and lawlessness.
The police resist,
yet the deeper cause lies elsewhere.
When the root decays,
the tree itself decays as well.
The root of the problem
lies in the lack of education and culture.
Citizens must be taught,
from kindergarten onward,
their rights and obligations
both at school and in public life.
Young people must learn respect
for their elders,
their teachers,
and people of intellect and spirit.
They should be taught
the Highway Traffic Code from an early age
and apply it conscientiously,
so that the bleeding on the asphalt roads may cease.
Above all,
they must love their homeland as a mother
and serve it with honor and self-sacrifice,
like Socrates
and Leonidas.
The State has a duty
to offer visions and ideals to the young,
not to abandon them
to gangs,
depravity,
anarchy,
and the dark dizziness of decay.
Today the world is rapidly changing form.
Technology races ahead
and brings upheavals.
Greece needs innovation and creativity
in order to achieve self-sufficiency,
for with old tools
come poverty and inadequacy.
This rock holds a unique position;
whoever possesses it
controls the Mediterranean.
Therefore, we must remain strong
as long as Turkey lies in wait.
There is a need to create jobs
through new technological investments
and dignified wages,
so that young people may build families
with security,
prospects,
and prosperity.
Our nation shall survive,
for it has rooted itself deeply
in rock and sea.
It shall create again,
and radiate light
to a suffering world.
Let the political parties cease their divisions
and chart a long-term strategy.
With one voice
let them serve development and progress
beyond the horizon
of the four-year political cycle.
The country can flourish,
provided there is unity of effort,
seriousness,
and worthy leadership,
far from petty politics,
corruption,
and favoritism.
If tax evasion is defeated,
if a National Defense Fund is established,
if strong incentives are provided
for Greek and foreign investments,
if the Greek Diaspora demonstrates
its patriotism in practice,
then new high-technology jobs can be created
so that Greece may prosper.
