Now that politicians have failed,
the experts, the scientists,
and life has slipped through their hands
like the doves of war,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

a new goddess is needed,
symbolic and stern,
to embody the idea
and the virtue\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n

yet to be effective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Necessity.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before her, even the gods are persuaded,
and human beings are driven
or disappear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If the Earth is to survive,
perhaps this new goddess can save it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let her become the Soul of the Earth,
the guardian of a new civilization,
a civilization of moderation,
of responsibility and Virtue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And if she does not truly exist,
let her exist symbolically,
like the gods of our ancestors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let us discover her ourselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let us give her a form
stern, yet beautiful,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

with an olive branch,
a spear, and a helmet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And let her message be heard everywhere,
until Necessity becomes consciousness
and consciousness becomes action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And let the environment
be her garment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the Earth must regain her balance,
and support humanity,
before the downward path
leads her into chaos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But somewhere along the way,
we forgot Moderation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We took more from nature
than she was able to give us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every need became a desire,
every desire became consumption,
and consumption
became a new god
that destroys us\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n

instead of saving us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The more we produce,
the more we demand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And the more we consume,
the more we wound
the Earth that nourishes us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Energy increases,
temperatures rise,
the balance is overturned,
and humanity
moves further away from nature,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

and because of this,
it has begun to perish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Earth
is not a garbage dump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is our home,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

and we must pay some kind of rent
to keep it clean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A great village it has become,
adrift within the course
of our Galaxy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And if each of us seeks
to tear it down in order to dominate,
that person will commit a crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Will we then live
among the ruins?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And if nuclear weapons become instruments
in the hands of the reckless,
and if artificial intelligence
is used for evil,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

then the Earth
will have been exhausted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Its future will be bleak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And humanity
will search in vain
for another planet
to inhabit\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n

something that, for the time being,
remains utopian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But there is only one Earth.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

And here we must learn to live
with balance,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

in peace
and in harmony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
