One murder?
Everyone in prison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two murders?
No one guilty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bravo, Lady Justice,
with your eyes blindfolded
and your scales crooked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two measures,
two standards,
and justice
hanging in the air.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One decision \u2013 green light.
And at the borders, chaos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yesterday they came by the hundreds,
tomorrow they will come by shiploads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whole battalions
will dock at the ports,
and we will applaud
our \u201chumanity\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They steal?
Silence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They snatch?
Silence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They kill?
Silence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you speak,
are you from the far right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They lounge in Omonia Square,
and we pay
the rent of hospitality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The people?
They forgot themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yesterday they sold Cyprus,
today they sell their land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And when the flow swells
like a foaming river,
perhaps the native
will become a stranger in his own land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The parties are happy.
Votes are votes, whatever they are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And the ruler on the podium
speaks alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSilence, citizen!\u201d
say the microphones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The media applaud,
the pollsters smile,
and the people count
the crumbs of their wages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the new Pericles,
Mr. Mits of the new era,
will remain in history<\/p>\n\n\n\n

as the great protector
both of migrants
and of smugglers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And Justice?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It does not see,
does not hear,
does not speak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Only History
keeps its notes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And the photographs,
like silent Furies,
will wait.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because one day
someone will ask
for an account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the disastrous decisions
and the mistakes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
