{"id":4095,"date":"2026-02-21T12:13:00","date_gmt":"2026-02-21T10:13:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/amphiktyon.org\/?p=4095"},"modified":"2026-02-21T12:13:00","modified_gmt":"2026-02-21T10:13:00","slug":"the-photographs-and-the-furies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/amphiktyon.org\/?p=4095","title":{"rendered":"THE PHOTOGRAPHS AND THE FURIES"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><em>Konstantinos Konstantinidis \u2013 Amphiktyon<\/em><\/strong><em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I was shaken by the photographs \u2014<br>dramatic,<br>with heroic figures<br>in the yard of the Shooting Range.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Without cause.<br>Without trial.<br>Crimes that will weigh<br>upon the Germans forever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I call them authentic,<br>genuine,<br>proof of heinous criminals.<br>Most precious.<br>They will speak the hidden Truth<br>so that, at last, the lies may end<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and the Truth may shine.<br>War Reparations are not a fairy tale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most homes were blood-stained.<br>I lived the madness,<br>the blood and the agony.<br>The Occupation \u2014 a hell that does not fade.<br>I remember it as if it were yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the Sacred Way.<br>I saw the convoy descending.<br>And from the trucks \u2014<br>a stentorian voice.<br>Men condemned to death.<br>On their way to execution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lying in the truck beds,<br>bound like parcels.<br>Guards standing upright,<br>bayonets fixed.<br>And they were singing.<br>And singing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Resistance marching songs<br>that were heard in Aigaleo,<br>in every neighborhood.<br>A voice that even now,<br>almost a century later,<br>shakes me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I did not see faces.<br>But I saw bravery.<br>Calm before death.<br>A serene gaze.<br>Their final battle \u2014 victorious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Distomo,<br>in Kerdylia,<br>in Kandanos,<br>in the mountains of Trifylia \u2014<br>holocausts.<br>Villages burned.<br>Women in black.<br>Children orphaned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And my mother \u2014<br>five children,<br>without a home,<br>without bread<br>in occupied Athens.<br>Hunger.<br>Famine.<br>Misery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The crimes remained silent.<br>Covered over.<br>Forgotten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But a crime,<br>if it is not judged,<br>haunts.<br>Festers.<br>It does not fade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now the photographs<br>demand Justice.<br>\u201cJustice, our sons,\u201d<br>whisper the executed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Genocides<br>do not vanish through denial.<br>They create tempests through the ages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The photographs and the Furies<br>will judge.<br>As long as the Trial is pending<br>hatred swells.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And only when Justice comes<br>will be restored<br>friendship,<br>alliance,<br>peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(21\/2\/26)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Amphiktyon \u2013 Major General (ret.)
